Final Fantasy is coming to Switch and PlayStation 4

Final Fantasy classics coming to Switch and PlayStation 4 according to ESRB listings

It looks like the classic Final Fantasy games may be coming to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4! In a recent Reddit post, user u/cefaluu shared screenshots of the ESRB's website showing listings for Final Fantasy one through six that include the Switch and PS4 as platform options. This is exciting news for fans of the series, as the original description for Final Fantasy 6 only showed it was available on Windows PC.

But wait, there's more! Since the original Reddit post, it looks like the ESRB may have removed the Switch and PS4 from the listings. However, this doesn't mean all hope is lost for console versions of the classic Final Fantasy titles. Last year, Square Enix mentioned that ports of the Pixel Remasters to other platforms could be possible based on demand. And with the company having completed the staggered launches of all six games on Windows PC and mobile, the timing of these listings seems all the more plausible.

This week, on December 18, Final Fantasy will celebrate its 35th anniversary after a long year of surprising announcements. While the official Square Enix hub for the series doesn't make any mention of Pixel Remaster news just yet, there's still plenty of time between now and Final Fantasy's birthday for some exciting reveals.

In the meantime, fans of the series have plenty of other news to catch up on. The next installment in the Final Fantasy 16 series goes up for pre-order today, and it comes with a monstrous Collector's Edition. An older classic of the PS1 era, Final Fantasy 7, also just added another remastered spin-off to the library. And the rest of the FF7 universe even saw a dedicated broadcast earlier this year when Square Enix celebrated the game's 25th anniversary.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series includes the first six games in the series, and it has already launched on Steam and mobile devices. It's unclear if the ESRB listings for Switch and PS4 versions of the games are accurate, but it's definitely possible that Square Enix will release the games on these platforms based on demand.

In the meantime, fans of the series can enjoy the games that are already available and keep an eye out for any potential announcements regarding the Switch and PS4 releases. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the series, there's never been a better time to dive into the world of Final Fantasy.
