Marvel MMO Cancelled

EG7 made the announcement in a press release stating a number of reasons for the cancellation of the game's development.

In a surprising turn of events, Marvel has cancelled their upcoming MMO game. The game, co-published by DC Universe Online developer Daybreak Game Company, was revealed just six months ago but has now been cancelled for unknown reasons. According to other reports and rumors, this is also the second MMO to be cancelled within development amongst the Marvel franchise.
The Announcement from EG7
EG7 made the announcement in a press release stating a number of reasons for the cancellation of the game's development. This includes:
- Risk profile
- Size of investment
- The long-term product portfolio strategy for the group
The board in charge has decided the investment will instead be used to develop resources across multiple long-term projects. These projects include previously announced upgrades to the likes of The Lord of the Rings Online and DC Universe Online, as well as other game opportunities.
Marvel Games in Development
However, it's not all doom and gloom for Marvel fans, as there are still a few Marvel games in development that we can expect within the following year. For example, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in 2023. The game being developed by Insomniac will be the sequel to the hit 2018 Spider-Man game. Continuing the game's storyline. Expect to see this released in 2023, exclusively on PS5.
Marvel Snap is set to be released sometime this year as a free-to-play CCG coming to both PC and mobile devices.
Another hotly anticipated game currently in development is Marvel’s Wolverine, which is yet to have an official release date announced. The game is believed to be an action-RPG set in the Marvel Universe and will follow the story of Logan, aka Wolverine. However, we still know very little about this developing game, as gamers have only been gifted with a very short reveal trailer. Which gives us only a very short snippet of what to expect.
Despite the disappointment of this cancelled MMO, Marvel fans seem to have plenty to look forward to over the next 12 months, with many games in development and set for release later this year and into 2023!
