If you're a fan of Rick and Morty, you'll definitely want to check out the new game from co-creator Justin Roiland. High On Life is a wild and wacky shooter game that takes you on a journey through bizarre, Alice In Wonderland-like worlds.

One of the standout features of High On Life is the talking guns. Each of the four available guns comes with a face on the back that reacts with unique lines during gameplay. It's a fun and quirky addition that adds to the overall madcap feel of the game.

According to Roiland, making a game is a much bigger challenge than writing for TV. "It's like writing a TV show that people can reach in and knock things around," he said. "And as a studio, we want to have lots of fun narrative surprises doing that. An encounter with an NPC is different depending on what gun you've got out. Every gun has their own complete set of dialogue and reactions. You're writing a lot more stuff, essentially."

The studio behind High On Life is Squanch Games, which Roiland founded in 2016. Lead designer Erich Meyr elaborated on the game's complex narrative structure. "You have up to four guns and every single one of them had a different line," he said. "So we had to control how wide we could go with it to make sure we could even do it."

As AI technology continues to advance, it's becoming an increasingly appealing option for game developers. In the case of High On Life, AI was used to add finishing touches to the game's art and to prototype some character voices. In fact, one minor AI-voiced role made the final cut.

Roiland himself is a huge fan of sci-fi, and that passion is evident in both Rick and Morty and High On Life. "I spent my childhood obsessed with aliens and Area 51 and abductions," he said. "It affords you the ability to tell so many different types of stories, which you potentially wouldn't otherwise be able to tell. Even some newer ideas I have, they're all sci-fi related."

In addition to Roiland, High On Life features a full cast of talented voice actors, including JB Smoove from Curb Your Enthusiasm and Tom Kenny from SpongeBob SquarePants. It's a hilarious and action-packed game that fans of Rick and Morty and sci-fi in general are sure to love.

So why not give High On Life a try? The game is available now on Xbox Game Pass, or for individual purchase on Xbox Series X and S and PC. And who knows, maybe you'll discover a new favorite game.

Happy shooting!
